Linear fluorescent lamps are one of the most commonly used light sources today. They are mainly used in industry, office buildings, schools, warehouses and sports facilities. These fluorescent lamps have a diameter of 26mm and are currently only produced in a three-band design that useshigh-efficiency phosphor which provides greater fluorescent efficiency in terms of lumens per watt. The output of fluorescent lamps is generally given in units of Lumen. Standard fluorescent lamps are generally classified according to wattage W, length H, colour rendering-colour shade given in degrees Kelvin °K and colour rendering index Ra. The basic wattages of standard linear fluorescent lamps are 18W at 60cm length, 36W at 120cm length and 58W at 150cm length. The colour rendering of standard T8 fluorescent lamps for general lighting is divided into 4 basic colours. The warmest shade is 2700°K and is referred to as incandescent light, 3000°K is a warm colour white, 4000 °K cold white and in the last variant 6500 °K daylight deluxe. The colour rendering index of a fluorescent lamp tells how colours are rendered under this artificial light, standard for general lighting we use a colour rendering index of Ra8, which is fully sufficient for this purpose. Ballasts are required to operate fluorescent lamps and currently two types of ballasts are used to operate linear fluorescent lamps. The electromagnetic which is generally called a ballast, where the starter is an integral part of the system, without which the fluorescent lamp cannot be lit. For the sake of the efficiency of the whole system, a compensating ballast is required for the choke ballast capacitor, which ensures greater efficiency in the system and therefore less consumption. The fluorescent light source, on this type of ballast, flashes on start-up before it ignites to fullrunning or lighting, we have to wait tens of seconds before the light source starts to work at 100% of its luminous flux or power. The second type of ballast for linear fluorescent lamps is the high frequency electronic ballast. An electronic ballast does not need any other components such as a starter or capacitor when connected to the system. When operating non-electronic ballasts, the life expectancy of fluorescent lamps is extended by up to 30%. There is no pre-ignition flicker when the source starts up, the light source charges smoothly and faster. For each given wattage of fluorescent lamp there is a different ballast and with electronic ballasts it is also necessary to determine the number of sources we want to operate.
